History

Ruurikkala is an old vicarage originally built in 1762. Until 1917 this old vicarage was also serving as a pharmacy, hospital, guesthouse and even as a post office. All together 14 priests lived in Ruurikkala with their families before year 1948, when Ruurikkala was turned into a home for the eldery. Even today there are many local seniors who have done their confirmation class in Ruurikkala. In 1991 Ruurikkala was turned into a Hotel. Ruurikkala is named after Rector Rurik Calamnius.

Manorhotel Ruurikkala was opened in 1992 after the owner had used nearly 1,7 million euros for renovation. Since then many companies have tried to turn Ruurikkala into a succesful business, but time after time the challenges has been too big. Finally the owner decided to sell Ruurikkala in 2006. After two years of prayers and tears Ruurikkala was bought for YWAM’s use in 2008.
